Parable of the Gardens

There was a man who built an estate. He planted exotic flowers, fruit trees, shrubs, and grasses. The property was beautiful and his neighbors all rejoiced as it became desirable to live near this beautiful estate. He employed many caretakers to keep the property lush and green throughout all the seasons. His annual harvest was bountiful and shared with friends and neighbors. But after many years, he sold the property and retired. The buyer, envious of what had been built, paid a high price for the estate without inspecting the property or speaking to the caretakers. Once he owned it, he began moving fruit trees, neglecting the gardens, over-pruning flowers for his home and firing the caretakers replacing them with lawn-mowers and low skilled labor. Soon the property was in great disrepair and no longer the jewel of the neighborhood. When he sold the property at a loss he blamed the seller, the weather, lack of water and sunshine, never once considering his own actions. His investors then lent him more money to go and buy another estate on the other side of the city never considering that their man had done any wrong.
